Regina Broenner, is a registered occupational therapist and a Bridging Polarities Through Art Facilitator who is also currently studying Sophrology. Even in high school her passion for working with people was evident in youth development work with refugees, studying pre-school teaching and working with disabled people. These influences resulted in her studying Occupational Therapy, a field in which she has been active ever since she first travelled to South Africa in 2002 and became acutely aware of the importance of providing equal health and educational services to all, especially children. Since then her love of education has resulted in her acquiring many qualifications in the field of childhood education and development. She is particularly interested in community development and supporting both young children and their families in holistic ways through play-based interventions.
She formed a non-profit company in 2014 when she saw at first hand the lack of educational resources in the Overberg region. The organisation has for years been providing Early Childhood Development programs in local schools, offering therapy for children with developmental delays and learning difficulties, running workshop programs for youths, providing training and resources for teachers, social workers, parents and caregivers throughout the region as well as collaborating with other ECD centres and local schools.
In her capacity as founder and Director of her company, Creative Skills Factory, Regina has used her varied experiences as an occupational therapist in the Overstrand region, her founding of the Creative Works Initiative in Stanford which offered a safe environment for children from under-resourced communities to explore their creativity through play and arts and crafts and her experiences as a volunteer in literacy programs.
This combination of commitment and expertise has resulted in her NPO establishing a fine reputation, enjoying productive collaborations with other NPOs throughout the Overberg. The organisation is financially stable and employs five facilitators and one administrator. Above all, Regina loves to work and be with people and hopes to continue using her organisation as a catalyst for social change.
